John Synopsis
The Gospel of John presents Jesus Christ as the eternal Word, the Son of God, and the source of eternal life for all who believe. John highlights the signs, teachings, and personal encounters that reveal the glory of Christ and call every reader to faith in Him.
John moves with depth and clarity, showing not only who Jesus is, but what it means to believe, abide, love, obey, and follow Him. This book calls readers to trust Christ fully and find life in His name.
Who Wrote John?
Understanding who wrote John helps us see why this Gospel gives such a personal and powerful witness to Jesus Christ.
Traditionally, the Gospel of John is understood to have been written by the apostle John, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. John was the brother of James, the son of Zebedee, and part of Jesus’ closest circle of followers.
John does not name himself directly in the Gospel. Instead, he often refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. This gives the book a deeply personal perspective, showing Jesus not only through His public ministry, but through the testimony of someone who walked with Him closely.
This matters because John was written to help people believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing they may have life in His name. John presents Jesus as the eternal Word, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, and the Savior who came to reveal the Father.
